Innes Sibun - UK Blues Guitarist
Blues guitarist Innes Sibun began playing guitar at the age of 12 after hearing B.B King on the radio, his life was never to be the same.
As a teenager he played in many bands playing punk, reggae, rock, folk & jazz learning from different musicians along the way. His eclectic tastes led him to discover many musicians from Skip James to Roy Buchanan to Charlie Parker just to name a few.
His first band the "Blues explosion" recorded the album "That’s what the blues can do" with legendary producer Mike Vernon (Eric Clapton, Peter Green's Fleetwood mac). The album gained critical acclaim & was voted best blues album in Ireland that year. The band toured throughout the UK & Europe on their own & also toured with American blues legends such as "Wild child" Butler, Jay Owens, Jesse "guitar" Taylor Joe Louis Walker & Johnny Adams & played all the major UK blues festivals.
In 1993 Innes was asked to join Robert Plant’s band for the “Fate of nations” tour & played throughout the U.S.A, Europe & South America until 1994 when Robert reunited with Jimmy Page for the Page/Plant band. He appears on Robert’s albums “66 to Timbuktu” & “9 lives”
Innes was signed to Viceroy records & made two albums for them before also making two albums for Provogue records. Throughout this time he & his band toured throughout Europe & also a tour of America.
He continued to tour regularly & build a name for himself in the blues world & recorded further albums for the labels ZYX, Ulftone & Blues boulevard. He toured regularly & enjoyed many shows in Eastern Europe playing in Bosnia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Kazakhstan & made four trips to Russia when it was still possible. During this time he opened for many of his heroes including Peter Green, Johnny Winter, Steve Cropper & Taj Mahal.
In 2010 Innes met Donal Gallagher, Rory’s brother & tour manager & was invited to play at several Rory tribute shows in America including the posthumous release party for the “Notes from San Francisco” album at the Iridium club in NYC. He has also paid tribute to his hero Rory at the Ballyshannon festival as well as festivals in Japan, Italy, Canada & Holland.
In 2016 Innes teamed up with Detroit singer & songwriter Marcus Malone, they released the well received album “Come together” on Redline records just as Covid hit the world wiping out all their promotional tour dates & putting an end to their plans.
In 2024 the predominantly instrumental album “The Preacher” was released on Sireena records recorded mainly with his road band of Kevin O’Rourke on drums, Anders Olinder on keyboards & Kevin Jefferies on bass guitar with Marcus Malone singing on the two vocal songs. Innes was joined on three songs by Charlie Jones (Page/Plant, Goldfrapp, The Cult) on bass, John Baggott (Portishead, Robert Plant) on piano & Clive Deamer (Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, Portishead, Radiohead) on drums. The album went on to get fantastic reviews from the music press for it’s move into more jazz & gospel influenced material, all of which was written by Sibun except for a cover of the Bobby Hebb standard “Sunny”.
Innes has continued to tour throughout Europe with his current line up of Kevin O’Rourke on drums, Kevin Jefferies on bass & Ray Drury on keyboards with another album planned for release at the end of 2026.
